Best Book

What's the best book you've read lately? What made it so good?

The City High book club just finished Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I'm not really a horror/fantasy genre person, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a sweet teenage romance with no sex or swearing. If you can accept the presence of vampires, this first love tale is told with humor and humanity. This was a nice book club choice and I think it would be a good read for middle school students as well.  --Jill

My book group read Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America by Brigitte Gabriel. This is the true story of Islamic terriorism. The author lived in a bomb shelter with her aged parents from age 10-17 during the Lebanese civil war conflict. It is her account of the events that lead up to this crisis and her warning that the US needs to wake up and pay attention to the teachings of the Islamic religion. I found it very scary and yet, remembering that this is one person's feelings, am still grappling with the question, should we believe her or not?

I listened to (Audiobooks) SHALIMAR THE CLOWN by Salman Rushdie. Great narrator, fascinating story, set in Kashmir & Pakistan. After traveling to India, I really enjoyed this.

My 8th grade daughter LOVES this book and the other two, New Moon and Eclipse. She can't wait for book #4 to be released.
