Non-fiction book walk grade 7

Literacy 7 and 7A

During the first trimester we ask the students to select and read a non-fiction book of their choice.  To let them explore the wide variety of non-fiction our library has we spend a day together doing what I call book walks.  On tables in the library I have a wide variety of books from each dewey range.  At each table there is a sign for that Dewey range.   The students start in their classroom and we discuss what they enjoy on TV that would be "non-fiction."  Then they fill out a interest survey that I created in Inspiration.  When they get to the library, they sit in small groups at the tables and rotate every few minutes.  They record on the sheet attached the kinds of books that they found interesting at each table.
